one month down

November 19, 2007

Today marks one month from the date of our referral. One month of waiting down. I wish I knew how many more to go. My best guess is that we will travel the end of February or early March. I decided to show you all a little snippet of the baby girl who has stolen my heart. I just couldn’t resist any longer.

Her precious feet are so big! I don’t think I could love her more. I hope she knows we would be there today if we could.

little care package

My sweet friend Emily is also waiting for travel news. She will travel a lot sooner than we will to get her adorable Lulu. She was kind enough to offer to bring our baby a little care package. I wasn’t sure what to send because I have no idea what actually happens to things after they arrive at the orphanage. All of the referral pictures that I have seen of babies that live in the same orphanage as our girl have little pillows in their cribs. So, we decided to send a little pillow that matches her crib bedding here. It was lovingly made by her grandmother. I slept with it for a few nights before I sent it to Emily in hopes tht it might smell a little like me and that she would know that I am coming to get her as fast as I can. I also found the cutest set of keys that you can put pictures in. There are three keys so I put a picture of Darren, myself and of course, where the pink is on the third key is a picture of my baby girl. I wanted her to know that we are already a family.
Fingers and toes crossed for Emily to travel really soon!!!

I have a new addiction. Free Rice. I could sit there and do it for hours. At least I am doing some good while I am improving my vocabulary.

FreeRice has two goals:
1. Provide English vocabulary to everyone for free.
2. Help end world hunger by providing rice to hungry people for free.

For every word you get right, they donate 10 grains of rice to the United Nations World Food Program. I am trying to do it every day. It’s fun!

thank you

Thank you so much to my brother Chris and my new friend Kendra for these adorable little onesies and bib! Kendra is a kind and generous friend of my brother’s that I haven’t actually met in person yet because she lives in another state. He shared the news of our referral with her and she decided to send a little gift to celebrate. How cool is that? She hadn’t even met me!! I hope I get to meet K soon and thank her in person! Thank you both!

three months old today

November 8, 2007

I decided that today is probably a good day to break the silence on my blog about our referral. Yes, we got a referral! Woohoo! We received out referral on October 19th. We were asked by our agency not to share this information publicly until our acceptance of the referral had been received in Vietnam and had been processed. We are also not allowed to share pictures of her on-line until after the Giving and Receiving Ceremony that will take place towards the beginning of our trip to Vietnam. The reasoning for this is simple. Until that ceremony, she is not legally our baby. There have been instances of not-so-ethical adoption facilitators in the past that have ‘bought’ referrals after seeing the information and photos on-line. So I will absolutely not do anything to jeopardize this referral.

For those of you that are not aware of what is happening in the Vietnam adoption world right now, you can get more information here and here. I have decided that I will not make this a political blog, so I won’t weigh in on those issues here. This blog is solely to record our journey to our baby girls. I will however note that our referral did not come from one of the provinces in question, nor are we using an agency that is under suspicion. I believe our agency is extremely ethical and feel very secure in our decision to use them. I am also very secure with our referral.

Ok. Back to my baby girl. She is perfect. Absolutely perfect. She is tiny and innocent and so very beautiful. She was born on our wedding anniversary, August 8th. We are hoping to travel sometime between January and March. Today my baby girl is three months old. It breaks my heart that I am not there with her today and that I have missed out on the first three months of her life. It does help to know that she is in an orphanage that I have been told is wonderful and loving by parents who have recently visited there. They have assured me that she is getting the best care possible. They have said that there are tons of hugs and kisses given every day. I hope someone gives her a special kiss today.

the ups and downs

and lack of information during the adoption process are absolutely killing me this weekend. I know it will all be worth it in the end, but I have never ever had anything give me so much anxiety in my entire life. Who knew that you could care so much about someone you haven’t even met yet?
